El Camino Real & Palomar Airport Road

El Camino Real and Palomar Airport Road ranked first in the City's high-collision-frequency intersection analysis. The study reported 18 collisions from 2015 through 2019, resulting in one severe injury, nine visible injuries and eight complaint-of-pain injuries. Seventeen involved vehicles and one involved a pedestrian. The intersection connects two important Carlsbad transportation corridors and sits near major employment, retail and commercial areas.

Melrose Drive & Palomar Airport Road

The intersection of Melrose Drive and Palomar Airport Road ranked second in the City's analysis, with 16 injury collisions during the study period. Palomar Airport Road is an important east-west route through Carlsbad, connecting Interstate 5 and coastal Carlsbad with commercial and residential areas farther east.

Carlsbad Boulevard & State Street

Carlsbad Boulevard and State Street ranked third, with 15 injury collisions in the City's analysis. Unlike nine of the other top 10 intersections, this location is controlled by a roundabout rather than a traffic signal. The City's analysis recorded one pedestrian and two bicycle collisions at this location, but no severe-injury or fatal collisions during the study period.

El Camino Real

El Camino Real is one of Carlsbad’s primary north-south routes. Several intersections along the corridor appear in the City’s high-collision-frequency analysis, including Palomar Airport Road, Alga Road, La Costa Avenue, Carlsbad Village Drive and Cannon Road

Palomar Airport Road

Palomar Airport Road connects Interstate 5 and the coastal side of Carlsbad with major commercial, employment and residential areas farther inland. Three of the City’s 10 high-collision-frequency intersections involve Palomar Airport Road: El Camino Real, Melrose Drive and College Boulevard.

Carlsbad Boulevard

Running along much of Carlsbad’s coastline, Carlsbad Boulevard carries vehicles while also serving areas with substantial pedestrian and bicycle activity. Drivers should remain particularly attentive around beach access points, intersections, cyclists and pedestrians.

Carlsbad Village Drive

Carlsbad Village Drive connects Interstate 5 and the coastal Village area with neighborhoods and destinations farther east. Its intersection with El Camino Real appeared among the City’s high-collision-frequency locations.
