SAN DIEGO, CA – A driver fatally collided with a bicyclist while under the influence of drugs on Pershing Dr near Florida Dr on July 20, 2021, according to CNS.
Adam David Milavetz, 39, rear-ended Laura Shinn, 57, as she was riding in the bike lane around 7:30 a.m. Rescue crews transported Shinn to an area hospital, where she died.
Following the collision, Milavetz allegedly exited his vehicle to dump a bag filled with methamphetamine over a fence.
Authorities recovered the bag and arrested Milavetz. Police searched Milavetz’s car and found methamphetamine, hypodermic needles, and fentanyl.
Milavetz pleaded guilty to gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated Thursday. He will be sentenced in February to 13 years in prison.
