POWAY, CA – A driver was sentenced to eight years in prison for causing an accident that left two dead in February 2021, ABC 10 reports.
The suspect, a 20-year-old man, was driving at high speeds under the influence of Xanax and marijuana when he struck a father and son driving to a baseball practice. Both victims died in the crash.
When investigators arrived, the suspect attempted to hide the drugs in his possession and lied about the events leading up to the crash.
Family and friends of the victim testified that they believed he should recieve the maximun sentence but, due to the driver’s age, he was required by law to recieve a shorter term.
