News: Head-on crash in Mission Beach leaves 2 dead, 5 injured

SAN DIEGO, CA – A head-on collision in Mission Beach on Saturday afternoon claimed the lives of two people and sent five others to the hospital.

According to a report by NBC 7 San Diego, the collision occurred at about 3:15 p.m. when a Ford EcoSport was driving south in the northbound lanes of Mission Boulevard near San Fernando Place and crashed head-on into a northbound Kia Sportage.

The driver of the Ford, a 62-year-old man, suffered fatal injuries in the crash. A female passenger in the Kia, 59, also died at the scene. Their identities are being withheld pending further investigation.

Two passengers in the Ford, and three in the Kia, were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators are working to establish an official cause of the crash. Should any additional information come to light, this blog will be updated.
