News: Injuries reported when car crashes into Oceanside marine base

OCEANSIDE, CA – Medics transported more than one person to Palomar Hospital on Friday after a vehicle crashed into the main gate at Camp Pendleton, reports KTLA 5.

The crash happened around 6:30 p.m. at Camp Pendleton’s main gate, which is located on Vandegrift Boulevard.

Police say that for unknown reasons, a vehicle attempted to break through the main gate of the base. The car ignited after colliding with the “final denial barriers.”

It’s unclear how many people were in the car at the time of the collision, but authorities say they were taken to the hospital with injuries of unknown severity.

The main gate to the base remained closed while crews cleared the scene.

A full investigation is underway.
