OCEANSIDE, CA – Officials have released the name of the officer who was hurt when a suspected drunk driver crashed into his patrol vehicle on the 1200 block of Vista Way Tuesday, according to KGTV.
Jonathan Shipp Sr., 35, was driving a Kia Optima west on Vista Way at excessive speeds when he collided with a parked patrol vehicle occupied by Officer Jason Dantzler.
The collision propelled the patrol vehicle over fifty feet and caused the suspect’s vehicle to catch on fire.
Officer Dantzler exited his vehicle to help rescue Shipp Sr. from his car. A resident assisted Officer Dantzler with extricating Shipp Sr. with a crowbar.
Emergency responders transported Shipp Sr. and officer Dantzler to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
