What should I do after I’m in a car accident?

Today I want to talk about something that I get asked all the time and that is what should you do after a car accident?

My name is Adam Hepburn and I’m one of the partners at HHJ Trial Attorneys and that’s what we’re going to go over today.

So the first thing you should do right after an accident is make sure that you pull your vehicle out of the roadway and make sure that you’re safe.

You don’t want any other cars hitting you on the freeway or the other party want to pull to the side of the road.

Once you’ve done that you want to exchange information with a party that hit you and that includes taking photographs of their license, their vehicle insurance, their license plate, any identifying information because you’re going to want that information at a later date.

Once you’ve done that you want to call the local authorities. You want to call the Sheriff’s Department and CHP. You want this accident and your injuries to be documented. That’s very important so make sure you call the legal authorities to respond to the scene.

Now once you’ve done that you are also going to make sure that you get immediate medical treatment. Even if you think you’re not injured as a lot of these accident cause injuries that don’t manifest themselves for a couple days after the accident but you want to make sure you go to an urgent care or ER to document your injuries.

Once you’ve done all those things make sure you contact a car accident attorney so that you don’t make any sort of statements to the insurance companies or anything like that can cause a damage to your case later on.
