What Happened
Palantir co-founder Peter Thiel and his husband, Matthew Danzeisen, boarded their private Gulfstream G550 on July 13, 2024. Due to the large number of bags and suitcases belonging to the couple and their three children, flight attendant Stefanie Bojar placed a few items in one of the jet’s two bathrooms. Some of the bags were filled with cookware and other large items, making them heavy and difficult to maneuver. Before the flight ended, Bojar sustained a serious ankle injury that later required surgery. But what actually happened on board?
There are allegations that emotions were already heightened when the family boarded the jet, as they had just left the annual Allen & Co. gathering where they had argued publicly with Reid Hoffman. Bojar states that Danzeisen is known for his emotional volatility, which has led to the resignation of two other flight attendants who had been verbally abused several times. One flight attendant alleges that a fork was thrown at her during one flight.
At one point during the flight, Danzeisen needed to use the restroom and walked to the one that was being used as additional storage. Bojar rushed to move the heavy bags before Danzeisen became irate and started berating her. His behavior has been described as a complete meltdown. He then moved in front of her and started hurling items at her. One of the bags struck Bojar, knocking her to the ground. Danzeisen then used the lavatory and returned to his seat without a word.
Text Messages and Witness Account
Bojar alleges that while nothing was said, everyone there was shocked, including the nanny who came over to help her. We have been given access to text messages between Bojar and the nanny that discuss the incident. The nanny clearly says that she cannot believe something like that has happened again. Those words imply what flight attendants have been exposed to while working for the Thiel family.
Injuries and Impact
Stefanie Bojar alleges to have suffered immense physical and psychological harm that has prevented her from working since the incident. The consequences have been catastrophic for her income and future earning potential. When speaking with Elliot Jung and Michael Hernandez, Bojar admitted that she has been terrified to take any legal action against Thiel and Danzeisen due to their immense wealth, political connections, and legal resources.
Legal Action
The twist that no one expected is that Danzeisen filed a preemptive lawsuit against Bojar. According to Jung, the lawsuit was filed because Danzeisen hoped, “…their vast resources would bully her into submission and force her to litigate on their chosen terms.” Bojar worked on over 200 flights for the Thiel-Danzeisen family. Many believe that Bojar was sued because Danzeisen knew he had caused serious harm, and he intended to get to her before she could make a move.
